Sunderland reject Lamine Koné will be heading back to the north east come the summer after his failed loan spell at Strasbourg.

The 30-year-old has been in and out of the starting XI at Strasbourg this term, but it had been hoped that the Ivorian defender would stay in Ligue 1 and be taken off the Black Cats hands.

That though, is not the case, with L’Equipe claiming that the French side do not want to sign Koné permanently, meaning he will be sent back to the Stadium of Light in a few weeks’ time.

Koné has a contract at Sunderland until 2021, so it’s more than likely that he will be loaned out once again for the 2019/20 campaign.
