Sunderland executive chairman Charlie Methven has confirmed that Juan Sartori will take a more active role in the club going forward.

Sartori, who is one of the main investors in the Black Cats, had taken a backseat this year to focus on his political career back in Uruguay.

The 38-year-old narrowly lost in his bid to become the National Party’s presidential candidate but that will only be a positive for the Wearside outfit.

As Methven explained to reporters at the Stadium of Light: “Juan Sartori put a large chunk of money into the club in September.
