Stuttgart boss Markus Weinzierl has admitted he was “surprised” that Benjamin Pavard’s move to Bayern Munich was announced on Wednesday.
The World Cup winner was revealed yesterday to have joined the Bavarian giants in a €35m move, but won’t actually join up with the Allianz Arena outfit until the summer.
And Weinzierl has conceded that the timing of the announcement was strange, but has wished the youngster good luck on the “next step” in his career.
“With Pavard I was surprised that it came out now,” he told reporters at their Spanish training camp.
“That’s a move that’s been circulating for some time.
“But the boy’s had a rapid rise and now makes the next step in his career.”
Stuttgart will return from their warm weather camp on Friday before preparing for their first Bundesliga game back against Mainz.
