When Borna Barišić came over from Osijek in a £2.2m move last season, he came with high expectations which he initially failed to live up to.
However, the Croatia international has been extraordinary, scoring twice and dishing out an incredible 11 assists from the left-back position and has cemented himself as a regular starter for the 2018 World Cup finalists.
When asked by a Croatian reporter how he felt Barišić has got on this season, Gerrard quickly sang the 27-year-old’s praises.
“Very satisfied. I think he’s been a lot more consistent this season. I think he’s shown everyone the reason why he is the number one left-back for Croatia.
“I think he was a player that we always knew had the talent and the ability. It was about him putting it together on a regular basis.
“I think he had settling-in issues and it took him time to win the dressing room and the supporters over, but at the moment he’s in a fantastic place.”
Rangers will need Barišić to step up on Sunday in the all-important Old Firm derby.
