Steve Bruce and Newcastle are looking to keep much of this season’s squad around for the 2020-21 Premier League campaign and are already busy attempting to tie up loose ends.

Andy Carroll’s one-year contract is winding down and, according to the Chronicle, everyone at the club is hoping the 31-year-old puts pen-to-paper on a contract extension.

Carroll re-joined Newcastle last summer after his West Ham deal expired and though he’s seen limited action, he’s delivered four assists in just 508 minutes of Premier League action (13 appearances, four starts).

Though the England international has been a big hit with the fans and in training, a number of minor injuries have kept Carroll from progressing the way the club would like.

Carroll last scored a Premier League goal with West Ham against Stoke City back in April 2018, bagging a 90th-minute equaliser to cancel out Peter Crouch’s 79th-minute opener.
