Steve Bruce has reportedly handed in his resignation at Sheffield Wednesday.
The 58-year-old has been heavily linked with the vacant manager’s job at Newcastle United.
According to the BBC, Bruce has now told Sheffield Wednesday that he will leave Hillsborough just five months after his first match in charge.
Bruce led the Championship club to safety last season.
However, his head has been turned by Newcastle since the departure of Rafa Benítez.
The Premier League club have flown out to Asia without a manager as they prepare for the new season.
As things stand, Newcastle and Sheffield Wednesday would still need to agree a compensation package before Bruce can take over at St James’ Park.
