Newcastle boss Steve Bruce has refused to speculate on the future of Matty Longstaff despite the midfielder’s failure to sign a new contract.

The younger Longstaff brother has scored twice this season – both against Manchester United – and has generally impressed with his performances in the middle of the park.

The Magpies have offered the 19-year-old a contract extension but as yet, Longstaff has failed to agree terms with the club.

But Bruce has insisted that he is not focusing on the future of his players, and only the upcoming fixtures.

“It doesn’t concern me because it is what it is,” he told the Newcastle Chronicle.

“Every player has that right now.

“The Bosman ruling has been there for a lot of years now. It’s their prerogative.

“If they’re not happy with their deal or whatever, then okay, we have to accept exactly what it is.

“That’s the situation we’re in.

“We’ve got a few players out of contract, but I think that’s probably true of a few clubs, not just ours. It’s pretty normal.”

Matty Longstaff will now be free to talk to European clubs from January 1.
