Steve Bruce has remained coy as to whether Matty Longstaff will stay at Newcastle amid talks that the club have offered him a new contract.
The younger Longstaff brother scored his second goal for the club on Boxing Day in a 4-1 defeat away at Manchester United, and was one of the few bright spots in an otherwise dour performance.
Reporta have suggested that the Magpies will look to tie down the teenager to a long-term deal after going toe-to-toe with the Old Trafford giants.
But manager Bruce has kept his cards close to his chest.
“That’s for other people to sort out,” he told the Shields Gazzette.
“I’d like to (see him sign a new deal), of course. He’s played four times now – and scored twice against Man United! The kid’s got a bright future. He wants to do well, and I hope he succeeds.”
