Newcastle boss Steve Bruce admitted that he is concerned about Miguel Almirón’s goal-less run at Newcastle but is eager to see his luck turn around.

The January arrival from Atlanta United has still yet to find the net for the Magpies in the Premier League.

Two big chances fell his way in Saturday’s 1-1 draw against Watford but he failed to take them, much to his manager’s chagrin.

While Bruce acknowledged that the 25-year-old has to start firing soon, he was keen to avoid putting too much pressure on the Paraguayan.

“It is one of those [situations] where he just needs one to get off,” Bruce said, quoted by the Chronicle.

“He needs a little break. Something to fall in front of him, practically a tap-in. Hopefully then he will get up and running.

“Two big chances fell to him but I can’t fault his work rate, his attitude, his energy and the kid is a good footballer.

“It’s just that we need him to score. He does have confidence. I see him every day in training and he scores.

“He might just need one to go off his back-side and go in to get up and running and we sincerely hope so.”

Newcastle paid a then club record fee to bring the Paraguayan to the club in January from MLS.
