Steve Bruce has insisted that Newcastle have to address their inconsistencies if they are to achieve their goals in the Premier League this season.
The Magpies came from behind twice to claim an impressive 2-2 draw against Manchester City on Saturday.
It was a point that pleased Bruce, but added to the accusation that they do well against the better sides, and poorly against the basement-dwellers.
“I thought their first was a bit fortunate,” he told reporters.
“You need to defend well against Man city and your goalkeeper to make a few saves and he did. You think, when KDB scores ‘That’s typical’. Thankfully we still had something to get back at them.
“The biggest thing for me was twice we went behind and twice we came back and that bodes well.
“The thing we have to address is we go up and down a bit too easily for my liking. At home our form has stacked up well but away from home we have to improve.
“When you take on one of the big boys it’s always nice to get something from it. Their attitude and effort and endeavour in terms of their workrate and to keep getting after the ball, it’s manful in terms of how they do it.”
Newcastle are now 14th in the Premier League with 16 points.
