Tottenham Hotspur could still move into their new stadium before the end of this season.

On Wednesday, the Evening Standard reported that two test events are being planned to take place on 16 and 23 March at Spurs’ new 62,062-seater home.

The test events are necessary in order for the stadium to be granted a safety certificate and one of them is likely to be an academy fixture, which Lilywhites’ supporters will be able to attend.

If all goes to plan and the safety certificate is issued, the new stadium could finally make its grand opening when Mauricio Pochettino’s side host Brighton in the Premier League on 6 April.

However, that match will be rearranged if Brighton beat Millwall and progress to the FA Cup semi-final, meaning the next available fixture for the stadium’s maiden voyage would be the clash with Huddersfield on 13 April.

But the Evening Standard say the Premier League would prefer Spurs to either play all of their last five home games of the season at the new stadium OR continue to play at Wembley until the beginning of next season.

Uefa, meanwhile, are happy for Tottenham to play at their new stadium from the Champions League quarter-finals onwards (assuming they make it that far) but the North London club are unlikely to be allowed to open their new stadium on a week night.

That means if Spurs haven’t moved house by the time they face Brighton, they will more than likely play the home leg of their Champions League quarter-final at Wembley.

The first test event needs the stadium to have a capacity of 20,000 to 30,000 and is likely to be an open training session, whereas the second test event must be close to the ground’s full capacity.
