After seeing many of their top players leave for free two summers ago following the now-infamous fan attack, Sporting are not in a position to let any of their stars leave on the cheap.
Premier League sides Leicester City and Watford have been very interested in 19-year-old Ecuador international winger Gonzalo Plata.
However, despite the teenager having made just 14 total first-team appearances since his £1m move from Independiente del Valle in January 2019, Record report that Sporting will not let Plata leave for less than his £45m release clause.
It’s understood that Sporting believe they have a potential world superstar and are willing to let the player develop with them in order to get appropriately compensated.
Plata is under contract at Sporting until 2024 and considering that the demanded fee would break both Leicester’s and Watford’s record transfer fees, we’re going to safely assume this move won’t be happening this summer.
