Sporting CP: 2015/16 season preview

Sporting CP expert Nuno Valinhas have kindly predicted the new season for Onefootball. Here's their 2015/16 season preview.

Record Primeira Liga winners Benfica celebrated their 34th title win at the end of the 2014/15 season, a season in which they finished three points ahead of arch-rivals FC Porto and nine ahead of fellow Lisbon club Sporting. Scoring a whopping 86 league goals, which meant a +70 goal difference – ahead of Chelsea, Juventus and PSG and behind only Barcelona and Real Madrid in Europe’s top five leagues – Benfica will be looking to improve on that this season following the acquisition of Raúl Jiménez from Atletico and loan move for Fulham’s Konstantinos Mitroglou.

Many eyes will be on Porto, though, who have steadied their defence – not that they needed to, conceding just 13 goals in the last campaign – by bringing in Real Madrid legend Iker Casillas and Giannelli Imbula from Marseille. But having lost Jackson Martinez and Danilo, it’s perhaps worth last season’s runners-up to invest in attack.

This season we won’t be watching Gil Vicente and Penafiel in Portugal’s premier division, but we’re happy to have Tondela and União Madeira take their place.

Our Sporting expert Nuno Valinhas has predicted what the 2015/16 season will look like for the Primeira Liga and for Sporting CP. Below you will find their predictions for the season under #MySeasonPreview and you’ll find his ideal Sporting lineup for the upcoming season.

Sporting will win the league with União da Madeira, Arouca or Vitória de Setúbal going down. Sporting CP will surprise and win their first title since 2001/02. Quim Machado (Vitória de Setúbal) will be the first to be sacked and Slimani will finish at the top goalscorer if he stays at Sporting.
