Stuart Armstrong is champing at the bit to get back on the pitch as Premier League players continue to wait for the all-clear to resume training after the Covid-19 shutdown.
The suspension of play is particularly frustrating for the Southampton midfielder as he was on a bit of scoring streak before the lockdown was ordered.
The former Celtic man had scored three goals in his last six league games before football ground to a halt.
While he is itching to get back to action, he understands that the well-being of society is the primary concern.
“Safety is the biggest priority and we’ll only return to playing and training when it’s safe to do so,” the Scotland international told The Mirror.
“Everyone is keen to get back as soon as possible.
“People want to watch football. If they had a choice they would be in the stadium and, as players, we would like them to be in the stadium. I’m not sure on the plan, how it would work and a timescale.
“I can’t speak for everyone, but I would like to go back to playing football sooner rather than later.”
Armstrong, who started his senior career at Dundee United, joined the Saints from Celtic in the summer of 2018 in a deal worth £7m.
