Southampton attempted to sign Genk defender Joakim Maehle last January but the Belgian outfit were not willing to sell due to their involvement in the Europa League knockout stages.
Following their elimination by Sparta Prague, the 22-year-old admitted that “it was a nice proposal from a big club in a big competition.”
Now, according to Sky Sports, the Saints will go after Maehle once again in the upcoming transfer window.
The right-back has been phenomenal this season, registering three assists in 24 appearances across all competitions, and earned a new contract in early September.
With Cedric’s contract set to expire at the end of the current campaign amid a relegation fight, it’s imperative that Southampton lands a right-back that can make an impact now as well as in the future.
Crystal Palace is also interested in the Denmark youth international, who would likely fetch a fee above £10m.
