Reports in the local media suggest that Southampton are willing to consider the idea of concluding the current season on neutral territory if needs be.

A Premier League meeting is scheduled for Friday where plans for the remainder of the 2019/20 campaign will be top of the agenda.

At present, there is a suggestion for teams to play a series of games at a neutral ground without fans present before returning to a locked down, sanitised hotel in the same city.

Clubs would then spend a week at their training base before repeating the process at another venue and according to the Southern Daily Echo, Saints officials aren’t averse to that particular idea.

However, the club have also made it clear that they would only push for such a plan if scientists gave it the green light for being safe to do so.

It will also only be considered if it was not a drain on both public funds and services.

The reason that idea has been mooted is that playing at a neutral, closed doors venue would help limit the exposure and further spread of the coronavirus.
