Southampton believe they will win race for Reims defender Axel Disasi

According to the Daily Mail, Southampton are confident they can beat Premier League giants Tottenham and Arsenal to the signing of Reims centre-back Axel Disasi.

The Saints are in desperate need of centre-backs to plug their leaky defence, which has allowed a joint second-worst 52 goals in the Premier League this season.

Disasi provides a gigantic six-foot-three frame and could be available at a cut-rate price, considering he is rated at £13m and only has a single year remaining on his contract.

Prior to the season ending prematurely, Reims posted the best defensive record in all of Ligue 1, conceding a mere 21 goals in 28 games this season, with Disasi starting all but one of those contests.

Monaco and West Ham are also said to be tracking the France U-20 international.
