The football community have been flooding social media with messages of support for the Scot, but in a brilliant turn of events, United have revealed that the 76-year-old is now out of the ICU.

He will now be referred to inpatients – which means his condition has improved enough that he won’t be monitored so closely by doctors.

“Sir Alex no longer needs intensive care and will continue rehabilitation as an inpatient,” a statement read.

“His family have been overwhelmed by the level of support and good wishes but continue to request privacy as this will be vital during this next stage of recovery.
