Sergio Ramos believes Real Madrid are set for an exciting year ahead.

Madrid won their third consecutive Champions League and Club World Cup in 2018, while midfielder Luka Modrić scooped a number of individual awards, including the Ballon d’Or.

Elsewhere in what was an eventful 12 months, they said goodbye to Cristiano Ronaldo, Zinedine Zidane and Julen Lopetegui.

“We hope we can keep the streak of recent years going in 2019,” captain Ramos told the club’s official website.

“This year we will remember as a historic year, I hope we can celebrate many more titles with our fans, that all Madridistas enjoy their team and we have a fascinating 2019.

“I ask 2019 to treat us with the same affection as in recent years. The challenges are to achieve the goals we set for ourselves. That is the DNA of our club and our story speaks for itself.

“I ask in the year 2019 that we can celebrate the goals we have in mind and above all be able to enjoy the end of the season celebrating a title with our fans. It would be wonderful.”

Santiago Solari took over in the Bernabéu dugout following Lopetegui’s sacking in November, and the Argentine has also reflected on a “wonderful” year for the club.

“In the New Year I ask for peace and happiness for all. Let everyone have a beautiful party and have a great 2019,” said Solari.

“It has been a wonderful year for Real Madrid, yet another one that adds to its history.”
