So it is a few days now and we have all calmed down after Spain’s shaky win over Iran.
But the news from the game keeps on coming, thanks to Dani Carvajal.
According to the Real Madrid defender, and anyone who watched the match, the Spain team were not happy with the referee’s approach to time-keeping and time-wasting.
Most of what Carvajal says is standard enough – “We complained a lot to the referee because Iranian players were wasting too much time and he wasn’t saying anything about it.”
But he did have an interesting tidbit re Sergio Ramos. According to Carvajal, at half-time, Ramos had a word with the referee.
Says Carvajal: “After the first half we spoke to him [the referee] and Sergio said ‘I know you are from Uruguay and you don’t want us to be your rivals, but please, let us play football and stop wasting time’”
You can probably count on one finger the number of people who are surprised that Ramos gave his opinion to the referee, right?
