"There was contact, yes"
São Paulo winger Nenê has confirmed that Fluminense have made an approach to sign him.
Nenê scored in Tricolor’s 2-1 Florida Cup defeat at the hands of Eintracht Frankfurt on Thursday and afterwards he was asked about his future.
But while the 37-year-old admitted there has been contact with Fluminense, it seems a deal is far from being agreed at the moment.
“There was contact [from Fluminense], yes, but until now there was nothing concrete. I’m calm,” he told reporters.
“These things I leave to my manager and the board.”
The defeat to their Bundesliga opponents – which took place in St. Petersburg, Florida – may not have been the ideal preparation as we move towards the return of the Paulista later this month, but Nenê insists results are not important at this stage.
“We’re just starting, their team is in the middle of the season, so physically they were much better, but we did not give up in any moment,” added the veteran.
“It’s part of it, it was the first game, so it’s all quiet.”
André Jardine’s side are back in action when they take on Dutch Eredivisie giants Ajax in Orlando on Saturday.
