Matchday 22 in the Brasileiro Série A saw Fluminense travel to the Morumbi Stadium to face São Paulo on Sunday.

In the 12th minute, Fluminense full-back Ayrton drove up the left flank before crossing for Jadson, whose heavy shot deflected off midfielder Igor Liziero and thundered off the crossbar.

The home team responded with a chance of their own when Bruno Alves headed a long throw-in on frame but Fluminense goalkeeper Júlio César made the save in the 18th minute.

São Paulo’s job was made harder in the 34th minute when forward Diego Souza was shown a straight red card. Souza struck right-back Léo Morais with an elbow to earn has marching orders in the first half of Sunday’s match.

Junior Sornoza launched a long ball from his own half of the field towards his team-mate Kayke Rodrigues. São Paulo centre-back Anderson Martins cut out the pass and attempted to play a header into his goalkeeper’s arms but Sidão had come off his line.

The own goal put the visitors on the board early in the second half.

In the 70th minute, Reinaldo fired in a free kick from about 25 yards out for the hosts that forced César into making a diving save. The home side’s persistence paid off soon thereafter with quick play on the right wing.

Left-back Ayrton went to ground rather easily hoping for a foul, allowing Régis to drive to the end-line. Santiago Tréllez turned the tight-angle cross by Régis past César from close range to put São Paulo back on level terms in the 72nd minute

After failing to hit a single shot on target, Fluminense will revel in the point they took on the road from the league leaders.

São Paulo maintain their place at the top of the Série A table but dropping points at home to mid-table opposition allows Internacional a chance to make up ground.
