The Guerreros notched their first win of the Clausura thanks to a wonder-strike from forward Julio Furch.

Santos Laguna ended the night with three points after two matched in the Clausura 2019 after beating Monarcas Morelia 1-0 at home Corona Stadium.

The first half did not produce many clear-cut chances but both teams pushed forward. The defensive partnerships of Emanuel Loeschbor and Gabriel Achilier for Morelia and Hugo Nervo and Dória for Santos were both busy clogging passing lanes and clearing crosses.

Both teams changed their tones in the second half. Brian Lozano and 20-year-old Gerardo Arteaga provided sparks off the bench for Santos Laguna and ultimately opened more space for Furch to exploit.

José Juan Vázquez played a simple pass through the middle of the pitch to the feet of his team-mate Furch. The 29-year-old Argentine turned and fired from distance to beat goalkeeper Sebastián Sosa in the 60th minute.

Morelia are one of three teams in Liga MX to lose both match of the Clausura 2019 alongside Querétaro and Tijuana.

On the next matchday, Monarcas will receive the struggling Tiburones Rojos of Veracruz while Santos Laguna will travel to Puebla.
