The win took them up to third place in the Superliga, five points behind leaders Racing Club with two games in hand.

Former River Plate striker Marcelo Larrondo netted the game’s only goal just before stoppage time. It was his first goal in all competitions since 4 July of 2017.

Although Defensa y Justicia owned much of the possession, both sides failed to create any decent scoring chances throughout the match, until Larrondo’s late heroics.

His first goal with his new club was a memorable one. After being substituted on in the 67th minute, the moment of magic came just before full-time.

Matias Rojas served up a wonderful cross onto the head of the ‘Falcon’, who couldn’t miss from six yards out.

San Martín’s struggles continue, as they remain on eight points. They’re currently in 22nd place in the 26-team division.

They will take on San Martín de Tucumán on Sunday, while Defensa y Justicia will host Colombia’s Junior FC in the second leg of the Copa Sudamericana quarter-finals on Thursday. They currently trail 2-0.
