Rui Faria will reportedly be offered the Benfica job after confirming his departure from Manchester United last weekend.

José Mourinho’s long-time assistant revealed last Saturday that he would be leaving Old Trafford and ending a 17-year relationship with United boss.

Reports in England had suggested that the 42-year-old was in line to replace Arsène Wenger at Arsenal.

However, the Telegraph has claimed that Faria will in fact be offered the chance to start his managerial career at the Lisbon club.

Benfica’s current coach Rui Vitoria is under severe pressure having lost the Portuguese title to Porto with two games of the season remaining.

Back in the north-west, Mourinho has confirmed that he won’t look to employ a direct replacement for his friend, and will instead re-structure his current backroom staff.
