Salomón Rondón insists he is “really happy” at Newcastle after continuing to impress under Rafael Benítez.

The 29-year-old hit a superb free-kick against Bournemouth on Saturday, equalling his best ever Premier League tally (nine) with seven games to play.

Uncertainty remains over his future and whether Newcastle will make his loan move permanent, but Rondón insists he is only focused on football.

“I’m really happy,” he told the club’s official website. “It’s the reason the gaffer brought me here, to score goals and help the team stay up.

“I hope I can keep scoring goals for the team, help the team and after that we will see what happens.

“We’ve got a few games at home to win, but we have to continue with the same attitude, spirit and fight.”

Newcastle travel to Arsenal on April 1 for their next domestic fixture.
