Robert Lewandowski: We need Manuel Neuer

Manuel Neuer is not having his best season by any means.

After an early exit with Germany at the World Cup, Neuer has already allowed 18 goals this season with half of the Bundesliga campaign still to play.

However, Neuer has rebounded and has posted clean sheets in his last four Bundesliga appearances to guide Bayern back up into second place – just six points behind Borussia Dortmund.

Despite not always being in his best form this season, Robert Lewandowski insists that the 32-year-old goalkeeper is still vital to Bayern’s success.

“He will save us many points. He was never bad either,” Lewandowski told Bild.

“But as a goalkeeper, sometimes you lose the ball under your arm, and sometimes you save it.

“Recently, he just hasn’t had any luck. That’s completely normal. We need Manuel.”

Neuer fractured his foot against Real Madrid in April 2017 and went through injury hell before finally being able to return in time for the World Cup.

Lewandowski believes Neuer just has to get back in the swing of things.

“When you’ve been injured for so long, you just need time to get your rhythm and find your top form.”
