Robert Lewandowski didn’t pull any punches after his side lost in the DFL Supercup on Saturday.

Speaking after the 2-0 defeat to Borussia Dortmund, the Polish striker criticised the club’s approach to the transfer market.

“Today was exactly the right time to see what happens when you have a certain number of senior players,” Lewandowski said.

“The young players who were on the bench do have potential, that’s true, but sometimes you just need players on the bench who can help immediately or can give the team a boost.”

Bayern have added Lucas Hernandez and Benjamin Pavard to their squad this summer but the former is injured, while the latter was only on the bench on Saturday.

The club have been heavily linked with a move for Leroy Sané but that is still not complete, while a number of midfielders have been targeted without success.

“When you think about winning every title available, you need to strengthen,” Lewandowski said during the club’s recent US tour.

Maybe getting the Sané deal over the line will satisfy the Polish international.
