Ricardo Ferretti has insisted that his spell in charge of the Mexican national team is strictly on an interim basis – no matter their results over the next few weeks.

The 64-year-old is currently in charge of Tigres in Liga MX, but will be on the sidelines for El Tri for their six friendlies between now and the end of the year.

But despite many in the corridors of power at the Mexican Football Federation hoping that he stays on beyond that, the veteran tactician has reiterated that he will stay loyal to his club.

“Anyone would want to be in my place right now and go through this cycle [with the national team], but at the same time maybe they don’t have what I have at a club like Tigres,” he told reporters.

“Honestly, I sincerely think I’d be a traitor, stabbing them after all these years at this club that has supported me so much.

“With the next three years I’ll have 11 years as the manager of a club. Do you remember this ever happening in Mexican football?

“So, this loyalty between us, this commitment, is really important.”
