Renato Sanches will reportedly stay at Bayern Munich for the remainder of 2018 after a proposed loan move to Benfica broke down.

The 20-year-old was looking to go back to his boyhood club on a one-year deal having failed to reignite his career last term at Swansea.

The Portugal international has gone from the best young player in Europe to out of the national team squad in just two years, and was hoping to recapture his 2016 form by going back to Lisbon.

However, according to ESPN, that loan move has collapsed after Benfica were unwilling to pay a loan fee and the majority of his wages.

Sanches, who is under contract with the Bavarians until 2021, will now stay at the Allianz Arena and work under new boss Niko Kovač.
