Bayern Munich midfielder Renato Sanches reportedly wants to leave Germany and return to boyhood club Benfica.

The 20-year-old’s fall from grace has been startling  – the youngster has gone from joining the Bavarians in a deal worth €35m in 2016, to then failing to make the Portuguese World Cup squad this summer after failing in a season-long loan at Swansea.

Sanches will go back to the Allianz Arena this summer, but according to A Bola has already told the club that he wants to leave to reignite his career.

They believe that talks between Bayern and Benfica have started, with the Águias keen to bring him back to his hometown club on an initial 12-month loan deal.

One stumbling block for the move however is the player’s wages. Sanches would have to take a significant pay cut as the Bavarians aren’t interested in paying anything whilst he’s away from the club.
