Manchester City feel that Spanish official Antonio Lahoz made a mistake which changed the course of the Champions League game against Liverpool on Tuesday night

Three experienced Premier League referees agree.

Leroy Sané looked to have scored just before half-time to give City a 2-0 lead over Liverpool and trail just 3-2 on aggregate, as they looked to make a miraculous comeback.

Although Sané was in an offside position when he scored past Loris Karius, he received the ball from Liverpool’s James Milner thus making Sané onside.

Former ref Graham Poll wrote in the Daily Mail, “City have been the victims of poor refereeing decisions in three consecutive games which have defined their season.”

He added, “I could understand the assistant thinking Gabriel Jesus had played the ball but from his position, Lahoz should have over-ruled him and allowed the goal.”

Mark Halsey told The Sun, “It was a catastrophic mistake from the officials. There are three officials with a great view of it and how they have come to that decision is beyond me.”

Former referee Chris Foy was also keen to back City, stating on-air, “The goal stood have should.”
