Referee lies to protesting fans to finish Leyton Orient game in empty stadium

The final minutes of league football at Brisbane Road had a sorry feeling on Saturday, they were played in front of a handful of journalists and no fans.

It had seemed the game wouldn’t end when fans of already relegated Leyton Orient made their way onto the pitch to protest their owner Francesco Becchetti and how authorities have allowed him to mismanage their club.

Having been told the game was called off, fans left the pitch and the stadium emptied…only for the referee to call everyone back out to play the final moments of the match.

With non-league football beckoning, this was a sad, sorry, and unfitting end to league football at Brisbane Road.
