Real Madrid's best ever XI ... The second forward 💥 | OneFootball

With the football on hold at the moment, we’ve been thinking about who gets in Real Madrid’s all-time XI.

Yesterday we chose our first forward. Today we’re choosing the second.

Here are the nominees …

3rd – Juanito

Known for his exceptional dribbling ability and fierce pace, Juanito was one of the first truly great Spanish forwards but died tragically young, aged only 37.

He played 350 times for Los Blancos, scoring 99 goals and was instrumental in the club winning five LaLiga titles between 1977 and 1987.

He said during his final season at Santiago Bernabéu: “Playing for Real Madrid is like touching the sky.”

2nd – Hugo Sanchez

Signed from Atlético Madrid in 1985, his arrival would become a turning point for Los Blancos as they re-established themselves as one of European football’s true giants once again.

Hugo Sánchez’s goalscoring exploits were simply ridiculous with the Mexico international scoring 27 goals or more in five consecutive LaLiga campaigns.

His four straight Pichici titles – given to Spain’s top scorer – is still a record but it was coach Leo Beenhakker who said it best when he described the goalscorer as “the type of player who, when you see him play, should have the game suspended and a glass of champagne offered to the 80,000 fans that witnessed him.”

And the winner is … Cristiano Ronaldo

A world record transfer at the time which, in hindsight, seemed like a bargain.

€80m was how much Real Madrid paid Manchester United for Cristiano Ronaldo, which might go down as one of the steals of the century.

For nine years Ronaldo become a totemic figure at Santiago Bernabéu, breaking the club’s goalscoring record and going down as one of the top three players of all-time.

His rivalry with Barcelona forward Lionel Messi drove both on to new, unimaginable heights, with the Portuguese sensation ending his time at the club having scored 311 LaLiga goals in just 292 games.
