And now a story from Italy has suggested that Los Blancos have ear-marked Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly as the man they want to replace their influential captain.

Koulibaly is widely seen as one of the most impressive central defenders in Europe right now and has been linked with a switch to Manchester United in the past.

But Corriere dello Sport say that Real Madrid have bid €90m for the Senegal international – but have seen that offer swiftly rejected.

Napoli president Aurelio del Laurentiis has previously said that they would let Koulibaly leave, but only if someone matches their €150m valuation.
