Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhüttl has hit out at Newcastle’s approach after his side fell to defeat on Tyneside on Sunday.

But there was some bitterness afterwards from the Saints boss, who was displeased with the manner of Newcastle’s performance.

“Football is like that sometimes. They had two chances in the game and scored two goals.

“If we look at our performances lately with two wins at home and a brave game away, I must be proud of how my players played.

The result leaves Southampton stuck in the relegation zone, while United have hauled themselves into the top half of the table.
