Rafa Benitez has reportedly turned down an offer to take over at Real Betis but his Newcastle future still remains in doubt.

The Liga side sacked former boss Quique Setien earlier this month and moved quickly to replace him with Benitez.

However the Sunday Mirror has claimed that the 59-year-old has rejected the chance to return to Spain because he has “other options of more interest to him”.

Despite the Premier League season having been over for two weeks nw Benitez is still no nearer to committing his future to the St James’ Park side.

Talks with owner Mike Ashley are thought to be taking place this coming week with the tactician looking for assurances over this summer’s transfer budget.
