Uefa and Europe’s top clubs will sit down on Tuesday to discuss radical plans to completely overhaul the Champions League.

European football’s governing body and the European Club Association will meet in Nyon on Tuesday with a host of reforms on the table.

The most left-field ideas being motioned are that Champions League matches could be moved to the weekend and that the competition could introduce relegation.

The Wall Street Journal reveal that one option being talked about is the idea to reform the current structure of the Champions League, replacing it with a more closed system of promotion and relegation.

That would mean the top clubs are almost guaranteed participation every year and could effectively turn the competition into a European Super League.

There are also indications that the elite-level European sides are keen to move fixtures to the weekend. Domestic matches would then be played in midweek.

It’s reported that the Premier League are vehemently against the changes and will make their feelings known at the “brainstorming session” in Switzerland.

If these changes are to become reality, they will not happen until the 2024/25 campaign.
