Thomas Meunier has defended Adrien Rabiot with the midfielder set to leave the club.

Rabiot has had an ongoing dispute with PSG over his contract and will not sign a deal beyond the summer.

The decision has seen him left out of the team on a regular basis and fans have reacted angrily.

“I find the views on social media about him very thankless and unfair,” team-mate Thomas Meunier said, per Foot Mercato.

“He’s a youngster from the club and he has shown more than once that he is concerned with PSG.

“I remember when he put Lionel Messi in his pocket at the Parc des Princes. The fans are sad to lose a player like him.”

Rumours have surrounded Rabiot’s future for well over a year but PSG confirmed last week that he will leave the club at the end of the season.

Barcelona made an offer for the Frenchman at the end of the summer transfer window but were rebuffed and Meunier believes PSG could have done more to keep the 23-year-old.

“I don’t think Adrien is the only culprit in the story,” Meunier admitted “It’s a shame that the club have failed to come to an agreement with him.

“For me, it would be great if we can keep hold of a player such as Adrien.”

PSG head into the winter break with an incredible 13 point lead at the top of Ligue 1.
