Paris Saint-Germain captain Thiago Silva has admitted that it is “a shame” that Adrien Rabiot has forced his way out of the club.

Rabiot rejected a number of different contract offers from the club over 2018, with the likes of Tottenham, Liverpool and Barcelona all looking to sign the out-of-contract midfielder.

It was then confirmed in January that the France international would leave PSG at the end of the current campaign and join Barça on a free – something the French giants found unforgivable.

Sporting director Antero Henrique confirmed that Rabiot would no longer be eligible for selection and was even banned from entering the dressing room on matchdays.

Now the Brazilian defender has made his feelings knowns, conceding that he has to “respect” the 23-year-old’s decision.

“I am not saying it is a mistake,” Silva told Telefoot.

“I think Adrien and PSG have both decided. It is a shame as he is a good boy, but he has chosen and we must respect it.

“Now we need a new midfielder as I think it is over with Adrien.”

With Rabiot no longer in the squad, PSG’s hunt for a new midfielder has reportedly taken them to Everton, with Thomas Tuchel’s men making a €25m bid for Idrissa Gueye.
