Paulo Gazzaniga’s reputation has skyrocketed since he reunited with Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino in 2017 after a move from Southampton.
After he elevated himself above Michel Vorm to become the Tottenham second-choice goalkeeper behind Hugo Lloris, Argentina caretaker boss Lionel Scaloni surprised Gazzaniga with a call-up to the national team.
On Tuesday, he came on for just over a half-hour of action, where he preserved the clean sheet in Argentina’s 2-0 win over Mexico.
“He has a good presence,” said Scaloni, “He caught the attention of the coaching staff. His selection has the doors open for all.”
With the next international fixtures coming in March, Gazzaniga will have to continue impressing at Spurs in order to earn another call-up to the Albiceleste.
