Patrick Bamford’s goal drought is now firmly in the history books after he netted twice on Saturday as Leeds beat Luton 2-1.

The 26-year-old scored two – including a stoppage time winner – as Marcelo Bielsa’s men claimed all three points at Kenilworth Road. The striker’s now on three goals in two games after a 10-match barren run.

And Bamford has revealed how the Argentine tactician helped him stay focused after calls for his exclusion from the starting XI.

“He was brilliant to be honest,” Bamford said of Bielsa’s dealing with the situation.

“He said that it was a cunning case, a unique case, because normally if a striker is not scoring, it’s because he’s s**t. Or because he’s not playing. But with you, it’s neither of them, so it’s a unique case, ‘I don’t understand,’ he said. ‘But I’m sure you will score, you should be scoring every game’. So he’s been good.

“The most important thing is that I work for the team. If we win and I don’t score, at the end of the day it doesn’t matter because we’ve got the three points

“In terms of that, he just keeps pushing at me to make sure I’m there for the team, make sure I’m doing the running for the team, make sure I’m basically part of the team, showing something – if I’m not showing the goals, then show something else. So I feel like I was doing that whilst I wasn’t scoring. It’ll be nice to be doing both obviously.”

Leeds currently sit in second place in the Championship, two points behind leaders West Brom.
