Paolo Guerrero entered during the second half of the match in which his team, Flamengo, defeated Inter 2-0 in Porto Alegre.

The 34-year-old striker had faced a one-year ban after testing positive for benzoylecgonine, a banned stimulant found in cocaine, shortly after Peru’s 0-0 tie with Argentina in its second-to-last match of CONMEBOL qualifying on 5 October.

However, FIFA had reduced his suspension to six months, allowing him to return for the beginning of the 2018 Brasileirão and the World Cup, pending a review from the World Anti-Doping Agency [WADA], who have asked the CAS [Court of Arbitration for Sport] to extend his suspension to two years.

The Peruvian captain is Peru’s all-time leading goal scorer with 32 tallies for the national team. He had not played for the Rubro Negro since their 4-1 victory against Bahia in October 2017.

The striker entered in the 58th minute and had a shot in the 74th minute that well over the goal.
