On Monday, Oribe Peralta officially joined Chivas from América, becoming the first high-profile athlete to move between the two sides in over a decade.

Though the move was seen as controversial, Peralta revealed that a kidnapping threat against his family partially influenced the switch.

“There was a personal situation that also made me move, it was serious, honestly, but I think a lot of people go through it, it shouldn’t be permitted, we should be more rational,” Peralta said at his official presentation.

“There was a kidnapping threat towards my wife and kids. It was one of the causes that influenced my move here, but it wasn’t the whole reason.”

Though Peralta is in the tail end of his career, the 35-year-old believes he still has plenty of goals left in the tank.

“I’m not thinking about retirement, I’m just starting here,” he said. “I’m 35 and I may have lost some things, but I’ve added other things, like experience.”

“I’m relaxed about it, I feel really good and I’m going to do everything possible in the preseason to be in form and rise to the challenge.”

Oribe Peralta spent the last five years at América and was a part of Mexico’s gold medal-winning Olympic squad back in 2012.

Peralta has won a total of four Liga MX titles in his career, two with América and two with Santos Laguna, in addition to a pair of CONCACAF Champions League crowns and last season’s Copa MX title.
