Chivas are enduring some of their worst times as a club and are hoping they can turn everything around starting with a solid 2019 Apertura campaign.

Last season, they finished all the way down in 14th place after picking up just 18 points.

Chivas currently have an average of 1.0441 points-per-game over the last two years, which has them level with Queretaro at the bottom of the relegation standings.

Manager Tomás Boy, who has only enjoyed one victory during his time in charge, will have a lot on his plate from the onset as he prepares to lead his side into battle against Santos Laguna on Sunday just 24 hours after his side’s International Champions Cup clash with Benfica.

Key player: Jesús Molina

Jesús Molina is one of Chivas’ most experienced players and knows how to win – having won two titles with América and another with Santos.

The 31-year-old joined from Rayados last season and had a difficult adjustment period but became a clear leader by the end of the season and even wore the captain’s armband twice under Tomás Boy.

His ability to organise the team will be crucial to the club’s success.

Player to watch: Oribe Peralta

It will be interesting to see how much the 35-year-old still has left in the tank.

The 67-time Mexican international striker comes in with a wealth of title experience and huge expectations.

After scoring five goals in last year’s Apertura, ‘El Cepillo’ didn’t feature much in Miguel Herrera’s plans after the arrival of Nicolás Castillo.

Peralta has played just 18 minutes since the end of January and must immediately win the Chivas supporters over, otherwise the former América star will be subject to some very harsh treatment.

Prediction: 10th place (24 points)
