One signing each Premier League club should make in January | OneFootball

New signings in the winter could well be the difference between glory and failure this season.

With that in mind, here is one piece of advice for each club in England’s top flight.

Arsenal

The Gunners have been crying out for a pacy, tricky wide-man since dinosaurs roamed the earth and if they aren’t at least enquiring about Ousmane Dembélé’s availability in the New Year, they really should be.

Bournemouth

The Cherries have come on leaps and bounds this season but they still seem to be lacking a commanding presence at the heart of their defence. How about a loan bid for Chelsea outcast Gary Cahill?

Brighton

Chris Hughton has already hinted that the Seagulls are unlikely to make any signings in January but if want-away forward Jürgen Locadia leaves, Portsmouth starlet Ronan Curtis could be a shrewd acquisition as his replacement.

Burnley

The Clarets have so far scored just 12 times this season and if they want to put distance between themselves and the relegation zone, they could really do with buying some more goals. They could do worse than offering West Brom’s Jay Rodriguez a return to the Premier League.

Cardiff

The Bluebirds have only found the net 11 times themselves so far and so a new striker has to be their top priority in January. Vincent Janssen is currently gathering dust at Tottenham, so why not give his agent a call?

Chelsea

Chelsea also need a new striker to ease the pressure on Álvaro Morata, and we reckon they should take a punt on Genoa’s Polish hit-man Krzysztof Piątek, who has scored 13 goals in 13 games this season.

Crystal Palace

The Eagles have been strongly linked with a move for out of favour West Ham winger Michail Antonio and we reckon he’d be a cracking signing.

Everton

Despite bringing in defensive reinforcements in the summer, the Toffees have still looked shaky at the back this season and with Phil Jagielka coming to the end of his career, they’re likely to dip into the market for another centre back. The guy they should be looking at is Brighton’s Lewis Dunk.

Fulham

Claudio Ranieri has been told he will have money to spend in January and after the shambolic way the Cottagers have been defending this season, a new defender must surely be top of their shopping list. Why not ask Leicester’s Christian Fuchs if he fancies a reunion in west London?

Huddersfield

The Terriers need to stop conceding so many goals if they’re going to have any chance of surviving relegation and they should start right at the very back with a new goalkeeper. Perhaps David Wagner could do worse than asking his good friend Jürgen Klopp for Simon Mignolet on loan?

Leicester

The Foxes’ main aim in January will be to trim their bloated squad but if they do bring someone in, it should be a winger. Inter’s Portuguese international João Mário would be a decent acquisition, despite his underwhelming loan spell at West Ham last season.

Liverpool

After failing to complete a deal for Nabil Fekir in the summer, the Reds could still do with an attacking player to help them in their title challenge. That player should be Borussia Dortmund’s Christian Pulisic.

Manchester City

Fernandinho will be 34 in May and City need a successor to the Brazilian in midfield. Ajax youngster Frenkie de Jong looks perfect for Pep Guardiola’s style of football and has the potential to be a star of the future. Go get him before somebody else does.

Manchester United

If the Red Devils still don’t have a quality new central defender at the beginning of February, José Mourinho will have every right to be aggrieved. Toby Alderweireld will be available for just £25.4m in the summer, meaning Spurs would surely have to consider a bid of around £40m in January.

Newcastle

The Magpies are crying out for some creativity in midfield and they should go all out for Atlanta United’s Paraguayan star Miguel Almirón. We’re likely to be hearing a lot about this guy in the coming years.

Southampton

The Saints have so far found the net just eight times this season and must do better in front of goal. How about a swoop for Ajax’s 21-year-old forward Kasper Dolberg?

Tottenham

After failing to sign anyone in the summer, Spurs fans will probably take whatever they can get in January. If they do lose Toby Alderweireld, perhaps they could offer to end Eric Bailly’s Manchester United nightmare?

Watford

The Hornets have exceeded expectations so far this season but adding some quality in midfield could be key to their push for a Europa League spot in the second half of the campaign. Hoffenheim’s 25-year-old German international Kerem Demirbay would be a magnificent signing.

West Ham

Regardless of whether or not they sign free agent Samir Nasri, West Ham could do with adding some more talent to their midfield engine room in January. If Manuel Pellegrini hasn’t already thought about asking Chelsea for Ruben Loftus-Cheek on loan, let’s hope he’s reading this.

Wolves

Jorge Mendes will probably have more of a say in Wolves’ January transfer window than us but we reckon they should sign Liverpool’s Divock Origi. The Belgian clearly has talent and we’re convinced he’d score goals in the Premier League once he is given the chance.
