With Tammy Abraham installed as first choice centre-forward at Chelsea, it has left Olivier Giroud a little frustrated with his own role.
Frank Lampard has shown that he is willing to give youth a chance at Stamford Bridge.
Abraham is just one of the beneficiaries of that philosophy, much to the chagrin of his senior striking colleague.
“Obviously I’m not happy with my role on the bench because I have goals in my head,” Giroud told Le Figaro.
“I’m here to help the new generation but the time for retirement for me certainly hasn’t come.
“I’m still hungry and I have a lot of ambition. I don’t just want to be Chelsea’s number two striker.
“Just because I’m here as an example for younger players it doesn’t mean I want to be out on the sidelines.”
Giroud has clocked up just over 100 minutes of football in the Blues’ first four Premier League fixtures, although did play an important role when he started in Chelsea’s Super Cup loss.
