Olivier Giroud has revealed his pride at drawing level with David Trezeguet as France’s third-highest goalscorer of all time.
Giroud netted his 34th goal for Les Bleus as Didier Deschamps’ side beat Moldova in their opening Euro 2020 qualifier on Friday.
It meant that the Chelsea striker went into the bronze medal position as his country’s third highest hitman alongside the former Juventus great.
And now Giroud has his eyes on the number two spot, currently held by Michel Platini on 41.
“I’m not one to think of personal goals before the team,” he told TF1.
“But it’s always nice to achieve something like this.
“Trezeguet was a great goalscorer and I hope to keep on climbing the rankings.
“Platini is my next goal.”
France face Iceland in their next qualifier on Monday.
