Despite Chicago having won the first meeting between the two teams, NYCFC kept their foot on the gas and never looked like losing this match.

Alexander Ring and David Villa scored less than five minutes apart to give the home side all three points.

NYCFC displayed confidence and dominated on their tiny home pitch, though the first half was particularly dull and did not feature many chances for either side.

Just moments after the second-half whistle, Ring put NYCFC in front. A fantastic build-up play by Maxi Moralez and Villa gave Ring the chance to beautifully curl his goal into the far corner.

Villa would then score a goal of his own in the 51st minute to double NYCFC’s lead. Moralez was involved again and found Villa alone in front of goal for one of his easiest goals of the season.

NYCFC remain in third place and are now up to 53 points. They have just three matches to play and are on pace to secure the third or fourth seed in the East – which would see them host a first-round match.

Chicago have long been out of post-season contention and are now mathematically eliminated with the loss.
