Corinthians traveled to Novo Horizonte for a Campeonato Paulista match against Novorizontino on Sunday.

Timão played rather poorly, particularly in the final third, and fell on the road again in the state tournament.

The alvinegra team was riding high after defeating Palmeiras last time out in the league but that positive energy did not carry over; losing 1-0.

Even though they were on the road, Corinthians began the match attacking well. Early on the visitors established a trend of failing in the final third, however, and forwards Mauro Boselli and Vágner Love were particularly culpable.

Despite some flubs from high-profile players on CorinthiansNovorizontino fashioned the best chances of the first half.

Notably in the 33rd minute, Cássio Ramos left himself vulnerable when he came off his line to close down Lucas Ramon but the Novorizontino right-back headed wide of the open goal.

After the half-time break, Corinthians continued to apply pressure but could not break down the organised Novorizontino defence.

As the match appeared destined for a draw, Murilo Henrique Pereira Rocha popped up in a goal-mouth scramble to win the match.

Pedro Carmona hit a free kick into the area that Paulinho initially headed onto the post with the help of goalkeeper Cássio. Lucas Ramon then crossed the rebound back into the middle for Novorizontino substitute defender Édson Silva to knock down.

Murilo Henrique was on hand to blast the ball past Cássio in the 85th minute.

The loss leaves Timão with just seven points after matchday 6, good enough for third place in Group C.

Sunday’s victory moved Novorizontino up to 11 points, which puts them on top of Group B (at least until Palmeiras play their sixth match on Monday).
